David Campbell has devoted his career to research and practice in nonprofit organizations, both in the U.S. and internationally. His research addresses critical nonprofit management issues. Over the past 10 years he has focused on accountability and performance measurement as well as the role social media plays in nonprofit organizations. More recently, his research has expanded to include global topics. Through his involvement with ßÙßÇÂþ»'s Institute for Genocide and Mass Atrocity Prevention, he has studied the role non-governmental organizations (NGOs) play in conflict prevention. In addition, he has collaborated with scholars at Koç University in Turkey to study philanthropy and giving in that country and is co-editor of the book Philanthropy in the Muslim World. He regularly publishes articles about his research in . Campbell is a member of the editorial board for the . He has held senior management positions in major nonprofit organizations in New York City and Cleveland. Campbell founded the Philanthropy Incubator, which uses an experiential teaching model to encourage students to incorporate giving as a regular part of their lives. The project has received funding from the , , and the (where he also serves on the board). The program educates and encourages philanthropy among undergraduate and graduate students. Since 2010, students in Philanthropy Incubator classes have distributed more than $200,000 to local organizations. In addition to the Klee Foundation, he serves on two other boards: , the professional association for scholars of philanthropy and the nonprofit sector, and the , which provides professional liability insurance to clinical social workers.
