Ossuary Excavation- Dr. Frankie West This project is a specialized program within our Medieval Cemetery Funerary Excavation. Students will learn and reinforce basic excavation techniques within an international bioarchaeological project. As part of a broader investigation of the abandonment of medieval churches in the region, this project provides an opportunity for students to gain experience in bioarchaeology while gaining a more comprehensive understanding of biological, archaeological, and cultural contexts. Juvenile Osteology-Dr. Jonathan Bethard Seminars and class discussions will include such topics as an overview of the bioarchaeology of children, growth and development, weaning and dietary stress, juvenile trauma and pathology, and reconstruction infant mortality. Moreover, seminars and lectures will introduce how novel technological applications (i.e., histology, DNA analysis, etc.) have been utilized by bioarchaeologists who study juvenile remains. Various laboratory exercises will allow students to practice age estimation from both skeletal and dental indicators. La Serena, Chile conducting research on prehistoric populations. I spent the time analyzing the collections at El Museo de La Serena. I attached the museum's website down below as well.
