The ßÙßÇÂþ» Art Museum welcomes Joseph Leach to his position as Curator
of Collections and Exhibitions. Joe comes with a PhD in Asian Languages and Cultures
from the University of Michigan where he focused on Himalayan Buddhist visual culture,
and is fresh off a post-doctorate fellowship at the Detroit Institute of Arts. He
brings experience investigating pigments in Korean painting and a commitment to hands-on
learning, whether in the museum or in the mountains of India.
Joined by his rescue pup, Peat, he’s excited to explore hiking trails and birding
locations in the Southern Tier. “I’m delighted to be joining the BUAM at a time when
the Asian collection is expanding through alumni engagement. Already in my first week,
I’ve enjoyed working with colleagues and student interns and thinking broadly about
the wide-ranging collection at the museum.â€
