Each year at the EOP Senior Brunch and Recognition Ceremony, students are honored and recognized for their contributions to the University community, the EOP mission and its students.

Alumni Book Award for Outstanding Leadership and Academic Achievement

Donations from Alumni have made it possible to offer a book award each semester in recognition of outstanding contributions to the university, and/or local community, and/or EOP as well as extracurricular activities.

MVB Scholarship

The scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who has completed a minimum of four semesters, calculated by the number of credit hours earned. First preference is offered to students of African/Latin descent. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and have exceptional service to the University and/or local community. Applicants must also submit letters of support and the service requirement must be verifiable. More info / /eop/mvb-scholarship.html

Yee Tai "David" Chan Memorial Award

A cash award is given to an Asian EOP senior for exceptional academic achievement. This award is given in honor of a former EOP student who passed away in 2000.

Parris Student Support STEM Scholarship
Tonya O. Parris '92
Established in 2004 by Tonya Parris '92. Awarded to a rising sophomore, junior or senior with financial need, eligibility in the Federal Work Study program, and academic merit (GPA 2.8+). First preference for an African-American student pursuing engineering or computer science major. Second preference for an African-American or Hispanic-American student in the EOP program pursuing mathematics or science studies. Third preference for a student in the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation. Recipients will be provided with the Parris Foundation web address so they can learn more about the mission and goals of the organization.

Catherine Beardsley Scholarship
Collective Donors
Established in 1990 in memory of Catherine Beardsley, a longtime employee in the Registrar's Office, who was committed to student services, as reflected in her friendliness, accessibility, and efficiency in dealing with students and staff. Awarded to acknowledge the achievements of an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) junior or senior student in good academic standing, with first preference given to Broome County residents.

Dr. David A. Garcia '91 Award
EOP
Established in 2010 by EOP in honor of Dr. David A. Garcia '91 to benefit a graduating EOP senior who has been successful despite many challenges.

Taris T. Burgess '08 Award
Taris T. Burgess '08
Established by Taris T. Burgess '08, awarded to an EOP graduating senior. First preference to a student who plans to attend law school. Second preference to an EOP graduating senior who plans to attend any graduate school or equal level of education in the health field. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate strong involvement in extracurricular activities.

Louis and Mimi Del Valle Latina Achievement Award
Collective Donors
Presented to acknowledge a graduating senior of Latino/a origin in recognition of academic excellence (i.e., cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better), as well as service and contributions to the University and/or local community.

John Benson EOP Student Award
Collective Donors
Presented to an Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) senior expected to graduate in May or who has graduated in the previous December and be in good academic standing at time of selection. The recipient should have made significant contributions and/or efforts on behalf of the EOP and its students.

Jerry E. Cunningham Memorial Award
Collective Donors
Established in memory of the coordinator of financial assistance for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). Presented to an EOP student with a minimum 2.5 GPA, who has an unmet financial need and the ability to demonstrate experience or interest in human services as evidenced by career goals, an internship and/or extracurricular activities. A recipient is determined by a selection committee.

Mrs. Frances Pettus Memorial Incentive Award
Charles Pettus, MA '70+
Established by Charles Pettus in honor of his mother. Presented to an African American sophomore or junior with outstanding achievement (3.5 GPA or above). Third preference is for a senior.

Albert Tillman Memorial Award
Collective Donors
Established by contributions in memory of Albert Tillman, a Transitional Year Program student who died in 1974. Presented to a graduating senior in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) with the best achievement record as determined by a committee composed of faculty, staff, and students.
