Department hosts "Insurgent Ethnography II" Conference - May 2023

Dialogue and discussion of insurgent and abolitionist ethnography. We will open a conversation and raise questions to help us all think together on how to deepen our practice and push it even further. Issues include language justice in multilingual research, reciprocity, ethics and particular challenges with this type of ethnographic work.

Department hosts "Towards a New World Order? The U.S., China, and The Rise of the Far Right" conference in honor of International Scholar, Professor Walden Bello - October 2022 

For more than half a century, Professor Walden Bello has been one of the most prominent social activists from the Global South. He was a founder of the Focus on the Global South, a professor of sociology and public administration at the University of the Philippines—Dilman, and a recipient of the Right Livelihood Award and Amnesty International Philippines' 2023 Human Rights Defender Award. Since 2008, he has been an International Adjunct Professor of Sociology at . From 2010 to 2015, he was a member of the Philippines House of Representatives. His most recent books are Paper Dragons: China and the Next Crash and Counterrevolution: Origins and Consequences of the Rise of the Extreme Right. The issues Professor Bello raised are of particular salience today given the recent rise of right-wing governments in Sweden and Italy and the growing confrontation between the U.S, China, and Russia.

Beyond White Feminism: Not ‘Healing’ the US Back to an Anti-Feminist Future
