Accelerate Your Degree with Summer & Winter Sessions
Attending summer and winter sessions can help you get ahead in your academic progress. Below is essential information on how financial aid can support your enrollment during these sessions.
Summer Session Financial Aid
Eligibility for Summer Aid
Financial aid is available for matriculated ßÙßÇÂþ» undergraduate and graduate students who meet the following
criteria:
- Undergraduates: Enrolled in at least 6 credits during the summer session.
- Graduate students: Enrolled in at least 3 credits during the summer session.
- Must be in good academic standing at the end of the spring semester.
Types of Aid Available:
- Federal Direct Student Loans
- Federal Parent PLUS Loans
- Private Loans
- Pell Grants (automatically awarded to Pell-eligible students based on enrollment)
For Non-ßÙßÇÂþ» Students: If you’re attending summer courses at ßÙßÇÂþ» but are enrolled at another institution, contact your home school to check if you’re eligible for financial aid.
Steps to Request Financial Aid for Summer 2025
- Maintain Good Academic Standing: Ensure you are in good academic standing at ßÙßÇÂþ» after the spring semester.
- Complete the Necessary Forms:
- : Available starting in December 2024. List ßÙßÇÂþ»â€™s Federal School Code: 002836.
- Summer Loan Request Form: Opens in April 2025. Submit this form to request federal loan funds after you are
enrolled for summer classes and have received your 2025-26 financial aid offer.
- Important: Taking federal loans for summer will reduce your loan eligibility for fall and/or spring semesters.
- Pell Grants: If eligible, Pell Grants will be automatically awarded based on your Student Aid Index (SAI) and summer credit enrollment. The Pell Grant will be applied to your summer bill, but it will count toward your 12-semester Pell limit. It will not reduce your fall/spring Pell awards unless you have reached that limit.
- TAP: New York State’s Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) cannot be used toward your summer bill because funds are not received until after the summer session ends.
- Excelsior Scholarship cannot be used for your summer bill.
- Register for Summer Courses: Register for ßÙßÇÂþ»â€™s 2025 Summer Session via BU BRAIN. You must meet the minimum credit requirements (6 credits for undergraduates, 3 credits for graduates) to qualify for federal loans.
- Maintain Enrollment: Dropping summer courses may result in a loss of Pell Grant or loan eligibility, and could affect your financial aid.
When to Expect Summer Aid
Financial Aid Offer: Once you’ve registered for summer courses and received your 2025-26 financial aid offer, your award will be revised to include summer aid in mid-May. You will be notified via your official ßÙßÇÂþ» email.
Refunds:
Most financial aid refunds will be disbursed in late July, provided you maintain your summer enrollment. Dropping courses could result in a
loss of funding.

Winter Session Financial Aid
ßÙßÇÂþ» does not offer financial aid as a separate package for the winter session. However, here’s how it works:
- Winter Bill Payment: If you do not pay for winter courses upfront, the bill will roll into your spring semester bill. At that point, your spring aid can be applied to cover both winter and spring charges.
- If your spring aid is sufficient to cover both winter and spring charges by the first spring payment due date, no late fees will be applied for the winter session.
